How to choose the theme of the thesis project?

broken image

The problem of choosing the subject of a thesis is always topical. Far from all the lucky ones with the teacher (the head of the department, the student), who can choose not only an actual and promising topic, but also an interesting one. And interest is after all the most important in such a serious matter as writing a diploma. In general, in life no willpower is needed, in fact, it does not exist. There is only a desire and interest, this is the main engines of any work.

I met many people who did a completely uninteresting work for them, including a thesis. They did not work, they postponed all the tasks for the last moment, when not done - it means getting round the neck. And they did well, quite a typing-blunder, just to get rid of it. Because they were just not interested.

And an interesting work is also a desire to engage in it, and constantly some new thoughts and ideas, and a momentary embodiment of these ideas. The work is done in a rally, everything works out, and the result is only encouraging. And there are no threats about the neck from the direction of the leadership.

So, the basic steps, or how to choose an interesting topic:

1. Analysis of options. You take a leaf and a pen (not a Word document and a keyboard!). A leaf is divided in half. One half of us will be positive, the second - negative. And you begin the analysis.

1.1. Analysis of their work. Everyone, I think, already wrote some abstracts, coursework, essays in their specialty (better - specialization). You look through each of your work and research paper writing. If the work seems interesting, at least something, you write on the positive side of the sheet the name of this work. If it seems to be quite boring, tedious and uninteresting - to the negative.

1.2. Analysis of existing topics and projects. At each department in each university has already defended a lot of students. Some works of these students are posted on the Internet (for example, on the site of your university), some works are on the lists on the department (here it is worth turning to your manager). You can interview your friends, find undergraduates and graduates who can help and list topics.

1.3. Analysis of discoveries. Transhumanism, gerontology, nano and biotechnology ... Well, and so on. It does not have to be an opening, it can be just something fashionable and new.

1.4. Analysis of the new on the Internet. Blogs, web2.0, webinars, social networks ... Anything! Also all the interesting - on the sheet in the pluses. And about the cons do not forget, this is important!

2. Analysis of the list that turned out. On your leaflet, both lists should already be large. Now we need to figure out how and what to choose from this.

2.1. Negative part of the leaflet. You're reviewing. Because in this boring part, something interesting could still come into play. You cross out what you really will not do 100%.

2.2. The positive part. There will have to work long and well. Select the most interesting and not very, that is, prioritize the topics. Choose all the same top ten.

3. Work with selected topics.

3.1. You ponder (you look on the Internet, for example), which topics are the most relevant and popular. You celebrate them.

3.2. From the most relevant you choose those that are closest to your specialization

3.3. Just think about how these topics will be useful to the department, the institute and, of course, personally to you in the future

3.4. Just think about what software product (or practical part) can be "tied" to this topic.

4. Choosing the best. Thus, it turned out about the top five topics. They, too, prioritize. And you go to consult your supervisor (or the teacher you trust). If he convinces you that you picked a bad topic - it does not matter. You have 4 more left! The main thing is to insist on your own and not to disconnect the brain. Because almost any topic can be considered in a favorable light for your chair.

5. Saving. Leaflet with pros and cons do not throw. From it (specifically - from the minuses), you can still draw that in your project do not and what topics do not affect (they are not interesting to you!).

6. To defend your opinion. By the way, if you are afraid to defend your point of view, show this magic sheet to the leader. Even the most severe teacher will see the work done by you - it surely will melt! And immediately understand that the choice of an interesting topic for you is vitally important. So, it will help you and tell you. By the way, you can show this list to your senior comrades in advance. They'll figure out how to help you.
